Ultimates Sails has come a long way since it was established with a single sewing machine back in 2003. Born out of a frustration of the direction the sail making industry was heading, Ultimate sails has established itself as one of Australia's leading independent sailmakers. Their philosophy is simple and driven by a passion and commitment to sailing; to stay on the leading edge of sailmaking technology, to custom design and build the fastest sails possible for every boat, but most importantly not to lose sight of what sailing is all about and the love of it which got them into the industry in the first place.

What is it that makes a boat go fast?  That is the question that inspired Andrew to move to Brisbane and become a sail maker 18years ago as a wide eyed teenager.   Growing up in a sailing family, Andrew has devoted most of his life to the sport of sailing; a hobby and passion which has seen him sail and work in locations all over the world.  His racing experience is large and varied from International Contender Dinghy and Tornado Catamaran World Championships, to the Sydney to Hobart and many Brisbane to Gladstone yacht races on different styles and sizes of yacht.

 In late 2008 he finished building and launched his latest boat, the Thompson 650 sports boat, ‘Alien Biopsy’.  As well as being a wonderful toy which is getting great results in regattas in Queensland, the boat is used for testing the latest sail design and boat set up to ensure that the loft stays on the forefront of sail development and technology.   Through this boat Andrew as felt both the joy and pain of being a boat owner, he understands the work that goes into it and the importance of not giving in when it gets tough.

The last 18 years has been an amazing journey for Andrew.  Even though he is now recognised as one of the leading sail designers in the Asia-Pacific region, Andrew is not sure that he will ever stop learning about this wonderful complex sport and what really does make a boat go fast.
